The Art of James R. Ure

I'm a 33 year old painter living in Colorado, USA. I paint outsider, metaphorical and surreal art with my own touch. I enjoy creating and putting two or more ideas together that don't usually go together in reality and create something new with them.

My art is highly symbolic, which allows me to convey many ideas within one painting. Some of my ideas come from "visions" or hallucinations. I have Schizoaffective disorder, which is intertwined with my art. I get these visions in full or in bits and pieces that I later put together into a painting and I can't get them out of my thought stream until I either sketch them down or paint them. They won't let me do anything else until I do this. A lot of times I sketch them down on napkins and other bits of paper because inspiration strikes wherever, whenever.

I paint my art with certain themes/meanings in mind but they are not the only interpretations. I enjoy when people find their own meanings within my work. In this regard the art becomes many paintings in one. I like to evoke emotion and feeling in my art first and foremost. I don't care what feelings people get when they look at my work but just that the FEEL SOMETHING. If I have accomplished that then I have done my work as an artist.

I paint mostly in oils but also acrylics. I also write a blog and am working on a book. I'm always interested in meeting new people and being inspired by others.
