The Awakening

My Depiction of Buddha floating in a cloud with the sun behind him
reflecting beams of blue sky. The mountains are designed after the
famous Huangshan mountains in China.

Buddha is sitting in a lotus flower, which is the symbol of enlightenment. The roots of a lotus are rooted in mud, the stock grows up through the
murky water, and the nicely scented flower lies delicately above the water,
basking in the sunlight. This cycle of growth signifies progress along the middle path of Buddhism from the obscuring mud of materialism, through the waters of experience, and unfolds into the warm, clear light of enlightenment.
